Since debuting with a string of fine re-edit EPs a decade ago, Basel-based Alma Negra has evolved into a collective that blends live disco, Afro-disco and Latin disco with deep house sonics. Having already taken this signature sound to Heist and Delusions of Grandeur, amongst others, they now debut on Toy Tonics. They begin with the Hammond solo-laden, acid-tinged deep house soul of 'What Would You Do', before peppering a deeper, smoother house groove with pots and pans percussion on 'Where Is The Love'. 'Free' sees them jam around a tactile, synth-heavy boogie-meets-deep house groove, while 'Sweetheart' is a dustier, more thickset and lightly dubbed-out chunk of early morning deep house soul.
